This year the annual JavaLand conference took place in Nürburgring at the conference centre of the notorious racing track. The conference by tradition gathered attendees and companies from Germany and the neighboring countries and was also a meeting place for the members of the 45 Java user groups throughout Germany.
This year the focus, as expected, was on the 30 years anniversary of the Java language with a set of sessions in both German and English from companies and contributors in the Java ecosystem. Eclipse foundation had a predominant presence discussing new features and the future of Jarkarta EE, Microprofile and other projects under the umbrella of the Eclipse foundation (if you want to learn more about what’s baking there you can check the topics of the OCX conference).
Adam Bien, one of the most prolific Java consultants, presented a very interesting keynote demonstrating the number of tools and frameworks that shaped Java throughout all those years. There were both speakers from the local and from the international Java community. As expected there were sessions discussing how to integrate AI and tweak the use of LLMs in your Java applications. Particularly interesting was the session of Andres Almiray on that topic. From a different angle Kevin Wittek presented AI development from a different angle leveraging the possibilities provided by test containers project and the new capabilities introduced there to support AI-driven development. There were also a number of community panels and AMA sessions throughout the two conference days. Attendees were also given the possibility to try a few of the activities provided in Nurburgring such as:
- driving a go-cart;
- exploring the backstage of the race track with a guided tour;
- exploring the race track itself with a guided tour.
Pretty cool if you are also a motorsports fan, right ? Not only that but the nature around Nurburgring is extremely relaxing and provides the attendees with the ability to not only enjoy the conference but also to have a nice escape from the busy life in the big city.
Looking forward to see how JavaLand continues to drive the Java community forward in the future.
